Nowadays wherever there’s a house, there’s at least a pair of speakers. You can’t imagine your living room without its home theater system. In other rooms, you will want to listen to your favorite CDs as well. In your car, you most likely have a decent stereo and a pair of speakers. The recent addition to the speaker technology, the wireless transmitters, allows you to have speakers in the garden, in the garage or any other place you need to hear your music.
But that’s not enough, when it comes to outdoor use. We need speakers that melt into the environment. And we want them to be weatherproof. And look natural. That’s why most of the outdoor speakers you will find look like a rock or a plant. These are the most populat, so most manufacturers carry them.
How to recognize a rock speaker
If you are in a garden, and hear music all around you, but cant’ figure out where it comes from, It’s likely that the speakers are hidden in some of the rocks around. These speakers are engineered for outdoor use, so they are 100% weatherproof.
Do these speakers really rock?
Sure they do! What we like most about these speakers is that you can use them to impress your children. With rocks that tell stories, this is as close as technology can get to a fairy tale.
If you are in doubt about the performance level of these speakers, don’t be. They can’t compete with the quality of a high performing indoor audio system or even with the home theater experience. They do sound quite well, though. Outdoor speakers are meant to please the ear while blending in the environment. Since they are close to you, you don’t have to play them that loud. Your neighbors will love you too, since you are not keeoing them up all night just because you are giving a back yard party.
Any major drawback? There’s one for sure. They are designed for outdoor use, so they’re all wired. This issue can be resolved through a few placement tricks.
