JBL Venue Series Monitor 5-Inch 2-Way Speakers (Pair)
| Overall rating: |

The Venue Series Monitor is the ideal choice for a home, office or dorm room stereo system where space is limited, but outstanding performance is demanded. Monitor is also the perfect choice for main or surround speakers in a home theater system. Monitor performs like a pro, utilizing technology derived directly from JBL’s Professional products. Equipped with JBL’s tried-and-true titanium-laminate tweeters and PolyPlas woofers, the speaker reproduces the high notes with extreme clarity. The lows and mids, assisted by the FreeFlow flared port, are loud and clear, without unwanted distortion or boominess. The Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal (EOS) waveguide ensures that every seat is the best seat in the house for sweet music and intelligible dialogue, or for just rocking out.

Great, affordable surround sound.
I have listened and researched much audio equipment before I decided to buy these and I am impressed with these JBL’s. They are only 2 way speakers but as rear surround speakers these will help develope the depth of surround sound that you are looking for. As front speakers, I would personally not use them. I am looking into JBL’s 3 way – 6 inch drivers for the front speakers. All in All these are spectacular for the price, they look good, and are well built.
Great choice
This a great pair of bookshelf speakers! I am starting a home theater system, bought a nice receiver and these speakers. I was looking at the Sony equivalent which is cheaper, and the sound of that set in store was muddy. Got these instead at an incredible price on Amazon. Sound is clearer, they look nicer and are smaller, and have a nice bass response for the size (not rushing out to get the subwoofer quite yet – play the THX opener for movies… you can FEEL it). Movies sound awesome, music sounds awesome!
Disappointing
JBL Venue Series Monitor 5-Inch 2-Way Speakers (Pair)
I have owned many JBL speakers for over 30 years. This one fell well short of my expectations. The bass needs to be tightened, the highs sound too metallic.
Not suitable for music listening, maybe good for TV watching.
JBL Venue Series Monitor 5-inch 2-Way Speakers
These speakers, by JBL, weigh around 8lbs. But don’t be fooled, they sound like a speaker that would weigh 25lbs. They can produce a powerful yet very clear sound. Attach them to the rest of the Venue Series and it’ll blow you away, or attach them to your computer setup and have premium audio fidelity. I am very impressed with these speakers and will continue to support JBL! audio equipment.
Excellent speakers
These JBL’s pack a powerful punch, they’re much stronger than you would think. Actually I’ve been very impressed with this line of JBL’s products. If you need great bookshelfs at a great price you can’t go wrong with these or the Arenas.
Great Speakers Awesome Overpowered Surrounds.
I bought these speakers for Surrounds in my new home theater system. I actually think these speakers are not used enough being surrounds for the wonderful sound that comes out of them. If I was setting up another home theater system I would use these for my front left rights and surrounds especially at the amazon price I paid of $75. The only negative of these speakers is they are not made for wall mounting.
Speakers
I am using these speakers as the back 2 pairs in a 7.0 (no sub) system with the other Venue speakers, the 8 inch ones in the front and the 5 inch (I think) center channel. I have no complaints. My focus is music and for that with the front speakers it sounds very nice to me. The front covers go well with the flat screen TV and the brushed nickel lighting. Also, for what I got the price was great with Amazon. Do it…
Looks can be deceiving!
I actually didn’t buy these speakers for a home theater system, but rather my home studio/computer workstation. Now my last pair of speakers were Event 20/20. For those who aren’t familiar with those speakers, they are used by many professionals as near range speakers for mastering audio projects. At this point in time I wasn’t able to afford $800-$1000 speakers just to use for my home computer setup. But I was worried I was spoiled by using professional monitors for the past six or seven years. The price of these JBL speakers almost seemed to good to be true, but I figured I could return them if I wasn’t happy. Well, these little speakers took me by surprise! Crystal clear sound. Nice mids and highs, along with clean bass. I am currently going from my computer outputs to an Alesis RA300 amplifier, so that helps quite a bit. A great set of speakers for an excellent price!
Yes and No
I’m sure these are great speakers, after all, they’re JBL.
Unfortunately nothing in Amazon’s description indicates that they’re not powered and will only work with a system that includes a receiver. I bought them to upgrade the depressingly poor quality of the speaker built into my new Sony Bravia HDTV but that won’t work because there’s no way to power the speakers. (I confirmed that with JBL’s customer support.)
I’ll probably keep them since I got such a good price and I have faith in JBL. I may use them someday or can give them as a gift.
If your plans for these speakers include a receiver do buy them. Otherwise keep looking.
Great for surround
This is by far the best pair of surround sound speakers I have ever had. They look as good as they sound too. This will be a great addition to any home theater system. They dont produce a lot of bass but remember thats what subs are for. These just produce great mid and high end sound to make your movie viewing experience that much better. No complaints here and the price of these speakers is just amazing. Dont look any further. You would be a fool to pass these up.
JBL Venue Series Monitor 5-Inch 2-Way Speakers (Pair)
Truly excellent product and value!
Looks well, is well-manufactured (solid), has almost 200-Watt peak power capability – AND sounds great as a Center Speaker for my family room home surround-sound system next to my 46″ LCD TV (I used both of them, each on one side of the LCD panel, connected in series as 16 Ohms, not parallel). Perhaps OK as a small “Main” speaker, however, I would recommend using the larger JBLs for that purpose (I also own 2, 250-W very large JBLs for my ‘Main’ projector-based surround-sound system). I auditioned the speakers at local stores that wanted almost twice as much “on sale”.
impressive
I wasn’t exactly sure of what to think of these speakers at first.
My setup includes a pair of these speakers, connected to a 6.5″ Klipsch woofer (from the GMX-A 2.1)
For $99, I wasn’t sure if I would get much more performance than the stock sattelites from the Klipsch 2.1; however, I’m very impressed after a few days to adjust to the differences in sound. (The Klipsch were much more bright sounding, and as I liked that, I adjusted the equalizer on my computer for slightly more treble. After that, I would say these speakers sound great any way you listen to them).
My personal opinion was that they sounded somewhat flat on their own. I’m not sure how the woofer attached would alter the sound, but they seem to be nicely rounded on their own.
Recommended for anyone looking for a great price on a mid-range component.
JBL Bookshelf Speakers
We purchased these speakers to replace a pair of very large Pioneer Speakers that we have had for many years. We were pleasantly suprised with the quality of sound from these 2 much smaller speakers. I would certainly consider JBL speakers to others and may purchase more also.
Clean
Nice and clean sound.
I bought these as side surround speakers…I didn’t read carefully…there are no brackets to mount them. I nailed on picture frame hangers.
Low keyed nice looking speakers.

Great Small Speaker with Bigger Sound than Expected
First, I should say that I am big fan of JBL speakers. I have a set of 135 surround speakers that I bought a few years ago and I still use the small surrounds as my rear surround speakers as well as the subwoofer.
Anyway, I bought these to replace an in-wall speaker that I have from Cambridge Soundworks. (We put a bookshelf in rendering my in-wall speaker useless). I am very impressed by the construction & sound of this speaker. It is solid feeling, very nicely designed and sounds great.
Nice bookshelf speaker
This is JBL’s low end bookshelf speaker. I assumed this would be bigger with a 5 inch woofer, but it is a pretty small full sized speaker. Nice low range for the size, clear sound, easy to hide and perfect for a surround sound setup (I used if for the rear channels). Sound from it is clear with good tone. Overall definitely worth the price (even though I got it from a discount warehouse for less).
