Speakers
Great for low cost speaker. They work fine with my home theater and just as good to listen to music with.
These are a Steal….but get a sub!
This is a great set of speakers for the price. They are nice and clear. They sound good at low and high volumes. They are light weight so they will mount on the wall nicely. Like all book shelf speakers they aren’t bass monsters but they do sound alright playing music. But, to get the most out of these, match them is a small sub (I have a older Yamaha sub, and the newer version is still only about a hundred dollars). I was nervous after I purchased these, I didn’t know if I would be disappointed with the sound or maybe if I should have gone and bought something at the local store instead so that I could hear before I bought, but lucky for me they sound great and I was very happy with this purchase!
Wonderful
An extraordinary value. I am using these speakers in a bedroom setup with an old Sherwood receiver and a Sony CD player. The midrange is as sweet as any I have heard at any price, and that covers most of the music I listen to in the bedroom. Of course you wouldn’t play the Berlioz Requiem on these little speakers, but for vocal music, chorales, and chamber music, they are remarkably satisfying. I recommend them highly.
big bang for buck
The clarity is really impressive for a speaker this size and price. It goes without saying that it will lack the bass of a larger model, but it’s a superior quality sound. I’d buy them again in a heartbeat.
Excellent Speaker Value
I admit it, I am semi-obsessed with not spending a fortune on anything. It is all about value. So when it cam time to find some new speakers I spend way too much time thinking about the right choice. But it paid off. These speakers are a real bargain. Their big rich sound will make you happy and so will the price. Compared to similar bookshelf speakers they may seem at the higher end but that is the problem. These little speakers do not compare to other bookshelf speakers. They are far more robust and compare more accurately to expensive mid-size three-way speakers like the Sony SSM-F750H. I highly recommend the POLK Audio R-15 for you home.
Oh yeah!
Wow, what nice sound from these little buggers! Usually most bookshelf speakers sound a little thin, but man these pack a wallop! Now, I’m using them in conjuction with a sub and center channel, but woohoo they rock!
mindblowing
I have never heard such a phenomenal sound from such a reasonably priced bookshelf speaker in my life. The clarity and response is actually more pronounced than my larger Polk RT-55’s. I would recommend these speakers without reservation. The best bang for the buck I have encountered in my 30 or so years of audiophiledom!! Thank you Polk engineers!
Quality @ Reasonable price
I have two sets of these speakers, each set on seperate floors! They are small, compact, and produce a nice, big sound for a varity of stereo attachments.
A very good value.
a low priced performer
I ordered these speakers based on Polk’s fine reputation and the crazy low price…I wasn’t disapointed at all–in fact was astounded at how good a 34[each] dollar speaker could sound! I grabbed the 2 pairs of these with a center channel speaker [all Polk] and hooked up the Velodyne sub [vx10] and let me tell ya…I couldn’t have hoped for a better sound! I actually made money selling off my old, huge dinosaur-speakers and sub and switching to this smaller, modern system…and got better sound to boot! Polk is my new speaker brand for sure…
The BASS is Booming!
Going from speakers that had no bass to some that do, what a difference!!
My wife bought me Rush’s 30th Anniversary DVD for Christmas and I didn’t realize what I was missing until I plugged these speakers in.
I’ve always wanted to own a set of Polk speakers and now I do!
I would buy another set of Polk and day of the week. The sound is just incredible, especially for such a small cabinet.
Highly recommend!
Polk R15 Speakers
These little speakers are terrific. I replaced a pair of bulky Infinity speakers with these and the size difference alone made these appealing. However, coupled with a Yamaha subwoofer, these front home theater speakers do exactly what is required of them, and more. They work well with my Onkyo receiver, provide excellent theater-quality sound and play all kinds of music with a deep, rich tone. Highly recommended….especially with the price.
Great value speakers – won’t disappoint for the price
I bought these speakers to use as rear surrounds in my Home Theater system. But after listening to them for awhile, I could easily have used them as main speakers on my second (lower powered) system. For such small speakers, they really surprised me with the amount of clean bass they put out. The trebles aren’t very bright, but they are adequate. Of course, you would never expect these to compete with higher-end speakers, but considering I only paid $50 for the pair (from [...]), I’m very very pleased. This is the first time I’ve bought Polk Audio speakers. Next time I buy some higher end speakers, I will give strong consideration to Polk Audio.
Great sound at an amazing price
The other speakers attached to our TV in the den had blown, and we didn’t want to invest a lot in a replacement, since at some point we’ll be going to a HDTV set up. We didn’t expect much at the price, but others had given them positive reviews, so we placed an order. They sound great and, as a bonus, look neat.
Great speakers for price and size!
I hooked these up to a 5.1 Dolby Didgital sound system as the front left and right speakers. They are the right size and sound for what I was looking for. They are good looking and versital. I will mount them to the wall for maximum effect. For this price you cannot go wrong, not only is it a great name speaker, it performs well too.
Great for the price
You cannot compare these to floorstanding, full range speakers, nor can you compare them to smaller speakers that cost ten times as much. If your frame of reference is using speakers that came with a surround sound receiver, or speakers by KLH, Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, or any brand not KNOWN for making speakers, these are probably the nicest thing you could do for yourself. They are very nice bright sounding speakers for a bargain price. I use them as my rear surrounds with Polk Monitor 60’s in the front, a Polk center (CS!?) and a Velodyne sub. I upgraded from Infinity speakers of the same size that were about 10 or 12 years old. Polks feature a brighter more forward sound, with perhaps a touch more detail in the high end than the Infinitys.
If you are expecting audiophile, $1000 speaker type sound, you arent getting that from these, but they will sound alot better than what most people use or what came in a surround sound package.
Book shelf speakers
The Polk Audio R15 bookshelf speakers have a sweet sound. We placed them with another set of PA speakers to complete our living room surround sound system. I would definitely buy these for other rooms.
Excellent speakers!
I wanted some full-range bookshelf speakers for the “rear” position in my surround sound system, and after a lot of research, I chose the Polk Audio R15. I couldn’t have made a better choice. They’ve got a nominal impedance of 8 ohms, frequency response of 65Hz to 24kHz (-3dB), efficiency of 89dB, and can handle 100W (each). For those of you who aren’t into “specs”, these numbers mean the speakers reproduce all frequencies between 65Hz and 24kHz relatively equally, deliver the sound efficiently (meaning you’ll make the most of the power an inexpensive amplifier has to offer), and will tolerate the power that most home stereo and surround sound amplifiers can deliver. When I received the speakers, I tested them by connecting them as the “main” speakers in my system, and they sounded great. Granted, the bass wasn’t as dominating as it is from my main speakers, but for bookshelf speakers, the sound was excellent. As the rear speakers, they complete the surround sound experience. To make the deal even better, I got a pair of them on sale (delivered) for $75! No regrets!
Awesome sound, great price
I use these for a stereo (2.0) and the sound is incredible. They are my only speakers in a 800 sq. ft. area and they fill the room with sound. These speakers have excellent range. These replaced my old Sony speakers and absolutely blew them away. I tried the Bose but they didn’t sound as clean as the Polk. And you cannot beat the value!!
Polk Audio are great speakers
I have not yet heard these speakers as we speak – but I owned a very comparable pair of Polk Audios a while back (may be one step higher) and experienced something that I think is worth mentioning. I had a pair of Polk Audios and had them placed high on a bookshelf which one of my cats knocked over (after owning them for not more than a year) and one of the tweeters was damaged. I bought them at Circuit City with a Sony stereo system. Anyway, I calledd Polk Audio to find out if the speakers were covered by my purchased insurance and without proof of purchase or proof of time owned they shipped me a replacement tweeter (free overnight FedEx). I am a true believer in customer service and they were the BEST!!!
Outstanding Speakers Outstanding Price
I bought these speakers because the price was so low for such a well known name. I’ve always wanted to try out some Polks and they didn’t disappoint. I have Avid bookshelf speakers and Bose bookshelf speakers as well. I did a side by side comparison and the Polks blew the others away hands down. For $40.00 dollars you won’t find a better deal. They have a well balanced, rich, full sound. Plenty of bass and beautiful highs and midrange sounds. Wonderful imaging. I originally bought one pair to use as my fronts on my home theater. They sounded so good I got two more pair. One pair to use as my surrounds and one pair to use as my main stereo speakers.
They have such an amazing sound that I have been listening to CDs I haven’t listened to in years just to hear the rich full sounds that the Bose couldn’t come close to.
These speakers need about 8 hours to break in. After that you will never listen to anything but Polk again! Hats off to Polk for producing an affordable speaker that sounds amazing.
