Okay for a small room
These were my first polk speakers. I use them as sides along with a csi3 center, fxi3 backs, and a velodyne sub. They’re okay, but in a medium-sized room, they definitely need the help of a sub (and I’m not the type who needs wall-shaking sound). Otherwise, they don’t produce much bass and the sound is kind of hollow. These aren’t bad, but maybe my expectations were too high.
They sound good to me….
I sat at American TV for an hour comparing these and the klipsch. Klipsch had great highs, but Polk sounded warmer and easier on the ears. I can turn these up as loud as I want and my amp overloads before they distort. One thing I don’t like is their length. I am having a hard time finding a stand for them that I feel can hold them correctly. Match them up with a nice sub for the best experience.
The reviews were right
I researched this class of speakers for quite a while before finally making a decision. The reviews rated these speakers as excellent and indeed they turned out to be.
Polk Audio RTi6
I am extemely satisfied with my new Polk Speakers. These were to replace a pair of older and bigger Polk speakers. The new smaller speakers sound just as good if not better that the older bigger ones.
excellent for my purpose !
I am the happy owner of two prototype Monitor 7 Polk Audio speakers.
I purchased 4 RTi6 speakers used as follows:
Using the two monitor 7 speakers for left and right channels, 1 RTi6 for
a center channel (These speakers sit on top of a large cabinet located
in the corner of a log house close to the ceiling), 2 more of the RTi6 speakers are used for surround left and right and the remainig RTi6 is
used for the rear channel. The surround left, right, and rear RTi6 speakers are mounted on log walls at almost ceiling hight. A powered subwoofer is located behind the corner cabinet. All is driven by an Onkyo TX-SR575. The RTi6 speakers were chosen because they are wall mountable
and narrow enough to mount between a rock hearth and a window frame.
Sounds great for home theater surround and casual music listening.
Polk RTi6 or JBL L830?
Well for your money I would get the polk. Today I went to a high end audio shop and tested the above mentioned. I got to tell you for a two way they had great mid range real nice and life like. The high end was vary natural sounding and the bass was there but not everywhere and vary responsive and crisp (just the way I like I). Low treble, high treble, low bass, high bass they still sounded good (thou with all treble taking out they got a bit muddy, witch would be good for TV actually). High and low volumes still give the same sound, I did notice a lot of the bass left around listening volume, but a little bump on the bass brought it right back up. The JBL sounded exactly the same, only that the vocals and higher mids where more pronounced and “I-sword-I-was-there-ness”. They didn’t get mudy with all the treble taking out and incredibly crisp with the treble up (they sounded better in other words). This was all done through a yamaha RX-397 or 497 (could not remeber witch one) The polk would make decent front speakers for a good sized TV but I think they would be a bit much for anything under 27 inch or so…
Considering the L830’s are twice as much I’d get the Polk if you have listened to the JBLL830 but not the Polk, about all you would lose would be a stronger mid range and life-likeness. Also the store was running them 10% and about this price so this is about as low a price that you will find for new ones.
