    I did not buy this, I was given it. Wow – this product is so bad, don’t waste your money!

    I did not try it using 6 C batteries because plugged in via AC, it sounded awful.

    Pros.

    * LOOKS nice

    * Design LOOKS like it would be useful.

    * Appealing appearance

    Cons

    * Volume: low max volume level (plugged in).

    * Sound quality: Line in: Poor! (sound is clipped?);

    * Sound quality: Remote Xmitter: AWFUL (VERY HIGH STATIC & unUSABLE).

    I will not be using this.

    I came to this site because my mother wants to give me this speaker for a Christmas present ( I do the leg work, she buys the present). You see I gave her this very same portable speaker system the previous Christmas and we have found it to be everything we’ve hoped. Yes, it takes a lot of batteries, but it comes with adaptors, which still makes it portable, and the batteries are fine for backup when you don’t have an outlet.

    My mother’s home is not big — a one bedroom condo- but it gives her the freedom to carry her music ( and a tv speaker) to her bathroom, her bedroom, and her patio. My only thought would be if I paid the full retail price suggested, I would examine other options- but for this price, I think it is well worth it.

    We bought two of these and tried them out, Initially we had one unit on the A/C adapter close to the plug and got nothing but static. We moved them nto a different room and away from the plug and god some music but the static never went away and was always heard, even when the transmitter was right next to the speaker. When I moved the transmitter into another room the static increased measurably.

    We will take them back.

    The only wireless speakers we have found that actually work well are the Acoustic Research AW822, which AR has decided to discontinue. Boo on them.

    What a serious disappointment this speaker system is: horrible static, poor reception coverage (30′ feet, maybe), bad, cheep sounding sound reproduction and a hassle to set up. To make this unit fully mobile you need 8 alkaline D batteries (think $16) and 6 alkaline AAA batteries (think $12)… did I mention the static? Overwhelming… anyone, with a ear for good clean sound would return this, this, this … well, you get the point. Not recommended at any price.

    Just like another review. I’ve plugged it in every which way that I can and not a sound..except for static at one point. The instructions are as near nothing as you can get, so who knows if I’m even connecting it correctly. I had Pod Speakers from Brookstone which were great, but the transmitter went out and they no longer sell them so I was trying to get someting to replace them for music around the pool. It won’t be this piece of junk…it goes back tomorrow.

    We received this for a Christmas gift and just love it. Opened it up plugged it into the computer speakers and put the speaker on the deck (about 30 ft away) and enjoyed music all day long. I’m not sure why the other review are not good because this is an awesome speaker system! The only thing I noticed was you can’t sit the speaker by an outlet because it causes static.

    My previous review of this was a bit in error…sort of. Turns out the 2ft. RCA audio cable that comes with the unit was defective…I tried direct-connecting the speaker and that didn’t work either, and then as I was unplugging the RCA cable, there was a burst of sound. If I held it in exactly the right position it worked much better, but as soon as I would let go it would either pop out or move to a position where it didn’t work.

    It works…okay. I agree with the review that called it “adequate”, because the sound is a bit static-y. I’m adding two stars, since the faulty cable alone doesn’t warrant the lowest rating.

    Here is my previous review as written:

    “I got this at a discount for $40…and it wasn’t worth it. The speaker sounds great for its size…good bass.

    However, the claimed 100 foot range is an out-and-out lie. I had trouble getting reception from as little as 15 feet away, *with* a direct line of sight. I can still use it by using an extra-long audio patch cable, but if it worked as advertised I wouldn’t have to do this at all.

    Back to the drawing board, Sharper Image.”

    Now I would add: let’s do a little product testing, eh? A $0.05 component that was bad could have resulted in a product return.

    No reception, no sound, nothing. I had to return it. Does that tell you enough?

    UPDATED REVIEW 1-2stars max NOT RECOMMENDED

    The sound is about as good as it can get from such small speakers. This is a very convenient item to have for cookouts, washing the car, exercising, etc. I would not pay anywhere close to retail for this item; it’s ok, but not great. It would be nice if the transmitter utilized USB to power itself and to transmit the music, no reason to tie up your speaker hole and require batteries/AC to power it; I would think USB would be able to power it. I ended up returning the unit and am back to using my small cd player clock-radio which sounds much better.

    PROS:

    -convenient

    -simple setup

    -AC power option on both transmitter & speaker

    CONS:

    -Retail price is way too much for this thing – I paid significantly lower (and still returned it!)

    -Constant buzzing – I unplugged other wireless devices to make sure it wasn’t interference

    -Underpowered

    -MONO sound – no reason it couldn’t be stereo, it has 2 speakers!
