Bought it after having seen a friend use his for badminton practice and was impressed with his. This being the second generation, I expected a little more than the original, hoping that buying second generation would pay off and it did. Although the cord is still short, about 4~5 inches, it’s what makes it portable. It’s the perfect length to connect to an iPod or any mp3 player. However, I have a Koss VC20, which give me another 3 feet of cable to plug into my computer, which sits under my desk. If you’re having issues with cable length, you should invest in it, as it’s only about 9 bucks.

Otherwise, the speaker works great and is very powerful. Keep it closed for vocals or open it up for more bass. Either way it’s very enjoyable.

The battery lasts a long time, seeing as I’ve only charged it once and I’ve been using it on and off for a month. It still has yet to run out of battery.

It also comes with a nifty little bag that you can carry it in, to prevent scratches and minor damage. I feel that the packaging of the product and the accessory products that come with are quite useful.

Overall, a great product and a must-buy if you don’t want your ears to deteriorate from too much headphone usage.

These are everything they are cracked up to be. I have lots of speaker systems including great home systems and a Mesa Boogie for that `other’ application. You will like these speakers for camping and such. Buy two to get great stereo output. Enjoy!!

I’m sure this review, as with all other negative reviews, is going to get a “this was not helpful” rating. Look, I get it.. the X-Mini II is an AWESOME product and nobody should to talk bad about it, right? At least hear me out first.. because I’ve been using these for almost a year and have owned 3 of them. I think that earns me the right to an honest negative review. And remember, most people review products shortly after they buy them.. I’ve actually spent a lot of time using them.

I absolutely loved mine when I first got it. I showed it to lots of friends and all my coworkers, many of which have since bought their own. It’s an excellent little speaker. The sound quality is amazing for such a small package.. the build quality feels very solid. Sadly, it’s what’s inside that counts.. and what’s inside is junk. I’ve owned 3 of these speakers and all 3 are now dead. Here’s the series of events that led to this bad review:

X-Mini #1 – Bought my first one about 10 months ago on Amazon. Loved everything about it. One thing that really stood out (aside from excellent audio quality) was the build quality. Very solid construction. I liked it so much I bought another one for a family member, which we’ll call X-Mini #2.

X-Mini #2 – Worked fine, but I noticed the build quality wasn’t as good as the first one I bought. The once soft rubber-like audio cable was now stiff, cheap, shiny plastic. The power switch was now flimsy and didn’t operate as solidly as my first one. The sound wasn’t quite as good, and it was a tiny bit lighter weight. After about 1 month, I started having audio hiccups from it and had to contact the store (possibly power surges?). They sent me a replacement and let me keep this one. The replacement they sent me is X-Mini #3.

X-Mini #3 – Same lower-quality construction. By this point it was obvious that X-Mi had started to cheap out on the materials of the speaker. The once rock-solid speaker now feels like a cheap toy. About two weeks after owning this speaker, the battery stopped working. It no longer holds a charge and has to be plugged in via USB or a wall outlet in order to play sound. I’m not going to bother the company I bought this one from because they already sent me a free replacement.. now it’s up to X-Mi.

Now I have 1 good speaker (my original), one defective one, and one with a dead battery, right? Wrong.

Back to X-Mini #1 – My beloved original, now, after 10 months of light use (maybe 3 hours a week), is dead. The battery is having the same issue as X-Mini #3. It will no longer play sound without being attached to external power.

I’m done with these things. I want to love it.. I really do.. and several months ago I would have given this thing 6 out of 5 stars if it were possible. I can no longer do that. They simply don’t last. I’m extremely disappointed with X-Mi for cheaping out on materials and have sent them an email explaining this.

If you’ve been able to snag one that lasts longer than a year, consider yourself lucky. I envy you.

Absolutely GREAT sound for a mini speaker, raises an eyebrow whenever I use it at work, “That music is coming from that TINY THING?!” Everyone who has heard it wants one of their own and can’t believe the price of only 30 bucks…

Smallest & best sounding speaker you’ll ever find, bottom line. The poor reviewers obviously received lemons.

I purchased basically for listening to podcasts and portability. Sounded great for this, but stopped working in 60 days.

The X-Mini is about 2.25 inches in diameter compared to the Altec Lansing Orbit iM207 which is 3.5 inches in diameter. The size difference appears dramatic; the iM207 is small and easy to move around but the the X-Mini is tiny. It is the same height as the iM207 when compressed (it still works as a speaker but the sound is perhaps slightly more muffled). When extended, it pops up about 0.75 inches. The X-Mini is easy to turn on-and-off with an old fashioned slider switch and there is a light on the bottom that shows the device is on. The iM207 is hard to turn on (you need to grip the top and rotate) and there is no signal that it is on; I have left mine on for an extended period of time at least once. The X-Mini is rechargable with a mini-USB power source; you can’t replace the battery. The X-Mini has a volume control (which really isn’t of much use); the iM207 doesn’t have one. The iM207 runs for a long time on 3 AAA batteries. The bottom line is that the iM207 sounds a whole lot richer. Its big sound is close enough to high fidelity for me. The X-Mini is muffled and sounds like it looks: a 2 inch sphere. If you care about the sound of what you are listening to, you’ll want the iM207.

Im an heavy ipod users. i had bougth a lot of many different kind of speaker. This one ise the best of all. First, for its size its very loud. Has bass. its rechargeable. And the size, very portable. Im my work everybody has ask for it.

This thing is really tiny. A bit smaller than a compressed tennis ball I think. Given the size, i am really happy with the quality and surprised with the volume. Very nice!

I love this thing. Great sound, and so compact and portable. I used to play my MP3s through two computer speakers but they were so clunky and had too many cables. This thing sounds just as good and is so streamlined and elegant. I find that it’s loud enough to fill a medium-sized room with sound. If you’re throwing a huge outdoor lawn party, you’ll probably want something more powerful. Also, I mostly listen to classical music, for which this thing is perfect. If you want really awesome bass, you’ll probably want something bigger. To be fair, I’ve never owned another portable speaker like this, so I can’t make a comparison. But I’m already planning to buy another one.

this little speaker is quite beastly. i read some of the reviews and was not expecting the speaker to be as loud as everyone claimed… WOW. works great! its really loud and easily fills up small rooms. the battery life is great. Treble comes through nicely, and bass is pretty decent, especially for the size of the speaker. My only concern is the wire to connect to the music source is a little thin. but other than that great product!

I bought this thing to bring this when I play volleyball, go camping, or host BBQs. I hook it up to my Nexus One and stream Pandora. It’s friggin amazing. No one can believe this little guy puts out so much sound. Everyone is super impressed. Battery on full blast lasts 5-6 hours, which is impressive. Recharging takes 1-2 hours. You don’t have to kill the earth by disposing of all your batteries.

Now granted, this won’t work if you’re looking for a sound system for your house or hoping to set off your neighbor’s car alarm with the bass, but for just listening to music in the background it is fantastic. I would say if they had a larger version of this I would probably prefer that since portability is not crucial to me.

Just like I recommend it to my friends, I highly recommend it to others if you’re looking for an ultra-portable speaker that has a lasting rechargable battery.

They shock u at how loud they go. Great for ipods as well it seemed like it brought my ipods max sound to a new level. Bass is optional too. Colors match my laptop perfectly.Battery life is atleast 8 hours without recharging now.Side volume optional. Best of all its so small theyr eabsolutely perfect for laptops because u can toss it in ur bag and go with ur laptop for on the go music. I hesitate with all products and always find some kind of flaw but these i was glad i went through with.

I don’t care for wearing earbuds all the time and was looking for something small, easy but with decent sound. This thing is it. The sound is better than decent, it’s pretty amazing, especially when you consider how small it is. Took it on vacation and it was perfect for filling the room with my music. Also great for working on the boat or wherever. Given it’s size it is not a blaster but plenty loud enough I think. I travel light and you just toss it in the bag. It is I’d say between a tennis ball and golf ball in size. All this for the cost I consider it quite a deal.

I bought another small speaker and I was really happy with it –until I heard the X-Mini II. A friend introduced me to the X-Mini and I immediately went to Amazon and bought one. I haven’t been disappointed. It’s amazing. The sound is really true and clear even with the volume turned up high. The sound is easily as good as my much larger portable Altec Lansing unit. To turn it on, you twist the top and bottom until it pops up and then you flip a little switch on the side. My other small speaker (different brand) has occasionally been turned on by accident because the on/off switch is exposed and too easy to depress.

My only regret is that I didn’t buy two of these little guys so I could link them up. I sometimes play music during the breaks in the workshops I teach and I think with two linked units, I’ll be able to fill the whole room with high quality sound.

After almost 5 months using this at work, I’d have to agree with all the 5-star reviewers- this speaker is simply amazing for what it is- a small full-range speaker. It’s got very good volume when you need it (ableit distorted), but whats truly amazing is that it uses a rechargeable batter which definitely lasts a whole day or more depending on usage (it seems). X-Mini’s power management is simply superb. The use of a Mini-USB plug for charging is a stroke of genius- you can use any number of chargers for this speaker, not just the one provided!

If you want a small portable speaker which never needs new batteries and gives good sound (not superb, but this is on-the-go listening kind), I HIGHLY Recommend this speaker!

I’ve “fiddled” with several small iPod speakers and these are by far the best I’ve found so far. The speaker driver is surprisingly powerful, and expanding the unit does enhance the depth of sound and improves bass quality.

Not only is the unit quite portable (comes with a small carry bag), but the rechargeable battery is quite nice, as you can re-power it anywhere you have access to a USB port. Many portable iPod speakers require traditional AA or AAA batteries, and power life is usually rather poor on those models. The X-Mini II’s battery life is quite good in contrast.

The unit is very lightweight and seems to be durably constructed. The power switch and jacks are well made and not at all flimsy or cheap (had a bad experience with an Altec Orbit in this regard). You can also chain these units together via a separate audio-out jack which provides for more sound, although a single unit by itself does a very nice job.

Price is good at < $30 and would definitely recommend this unit to anyone looking for a portable (or even desktop) iPod speaker alternative.

I have had these speakers for about a month already. I bought this because i wanted to use it during the spring break. No one in my circle of friends own portable speakers, and i thought it would be cool to have one. I have not seen anything like this before – The volume and the quality all present in such a compact device.

i have seen that there are reviews mentioning bad, wet or muddy quality. i also have encountered this problem. not with my ipod though, but with someone else’s. i asked where they got their songs from (because i know quality varies depending where music is found), and they downloaded their music off limewire. i did a test with this, and took the time to download some songs from limewire to test the quality. after downloading albums and collections from various artists and genre, i came to the conclusion that the source of music DOES affect it’s stereo quality. if you indeed are using limewire to get your songs, the highest output of the ipod should only be 75% and the speaker only have 50-60%. if your music is genuine, then yes, you can have maximum output for both.

This speaker can handle a wide dynamic scale and should not be a problem in playing your songs. Keep note that the equalizers should be set because the quality is magnified. if the equalizers are not in its accurate or correct setting, it is noticeable. only play with your equalizer settings if you know exactly where they are for.

I’ve had this for about 4 months now. And all I can say is ‘wow’! When I first came across it on Amazon, I was drawn in by its cool looks and thought of getting one for my Sandisk Sansa mp3 player. I’m really happy that I purchased it. The sound that comes from such a tiny speaker is amazing and its portability and battery life are real pluses. Would definitely recommend it.

I had a JBL speaker for travel with my iPod for a few years, and after much road wear-and-tear, I needed a new speaker. I looked at buying another JBL – I was happy with it – but it was still over $100 and I thought maybe…

I surfed amazon.com and found this rated highly, so for such a small price — what the heck – I gave it a try. I am so glad I did, and I only wish I bought one sooner!!

The design is great. The sound wont replace my BOSE, but for such a small portable item — wow! The charge lasts forever it seems – I’ve used it for hours and hours (overnight) and its never lost the charge (though I recharge it once in a while if the thought occurs to me — I have no idea how long it will last, but it lasted over a week with moderate use).

The cool “daisy chain” concept would be fun to try, but really – this speaker is good enough why bother lugging another one around to get lost? It comes in a little sack, complete with small recharging USB cable. A dim blue LED light lets you know if it is on, and there is a dial volume switch as well.

The sound can get loud enough that if I turn it up max volume, I can still hear TV shows (piped in over internet/laptop) while I do a cardio workout on a machine. It is indeed loud enough for that.

Strongly recommend. Awesome, what technology does nowadays…

I seldom leave feedback for the items I purchase on Amazon. This portable speaker is absolutely the coolest, most innovative item I’ve purchased in a long time. It’s revolutionary.

I can think of many occasions where I was spending time with friends and we had no music to listen to. Then the smart phones came along, which play music very poorly.Just last month, I was in Costa Rica playing cards with friends, and one of my buddies used an iPhone to play music. It worked, but it sucked. The X Mini capsule speaker is smaller than I thought it would be, but it produces better, louder sound than I imagined. By all accounts, this little speaker has exceeded all of my expectations.
